Mönchengladbach is the largest city between the Rhine and Meuse rivers. It is an attractive business location for many industries, above all thanks to its central geographical position in the heart of Europe – there are approximately 15 million consumers within a radius of 100 kilometers of the city. Mönchengladbach serves as a regional shopping location for more than half a million people living within its catchment area.

The retail provision within the city improved considerably in 2015 with the opening of Minto shopping center and its successful integration into the expanded inner-city environment. Recent data puts the number of visitors per day at around 35,000, with no small number of these coming from the neighboring Netherlands.
